Wuhu Second Yangtze River Bridge is the first cable-stayed bridge with double-limb column towers on the Yangtze River, and the eighth Yangtze River Bridge opened to traffic on Wanjiang River.
Anyone who has seen the Second Wuhu Bridge with his own eyes will be amazed: the bridge across the Yangtze River can still do this, and its shape is so slim! The linearity is so smooth! High face value and large volume are supported by many innovative technologies. With the technology of the world’s first co-rotating cable anchorage system, steel box girder with arc bottom, ultra-thin segmental girder and total external prestress, Wuhu Yangtze River Second Bridge won the "BE Innovation Award" for global infrastructure construction, which is the first time in the field of bridge construction in China.

In previous cable-stayed bridges, the cables were directly anchored to the main tower, and the strong tensile stress increased the burden of the main bridge concrete. The co-rotating cable system is different from the previous direct anchorage. It is like a white Hada, which is wrapped around the main tower of the bridge with a saddle. This stress system transforms the tension of the main tower into pressure, which makes the concrete of the tower column more solid. This innovative cable system has changed the anchorage mode of cables and towers, which not only makes the main tower of the bridge "slim", but also inhibits the generation of cracks in the tower column, which makes the tower column "prolong life" and provides new ideas for the construction of long-span bridges in the future.

In addition to the slender main tower, the bridge approach is also very thin. A total of 20046 segmental beams were used in Wuhu Second Bridge. According to Zhu Rujun, a project engineer of the Second Navigation Bureau, the total weight of a single single-span segmental beam of the bridge approach is about 750 tons, and the weight of segmental beams of the same length, width and type in China is at least 900 tons. Due to the load reduction of the bridge, the pile foundation, pile cap and pier body of the bridge will also be reduced appropriately, so as to be simple but not simple.
Looking up along the main tower, the surface of the main tower is clean and flat, and cracks are rarely seen on the tower surface. Sun Lijun, the project manager of the Second Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhu, No.2 Aviation Administration, introduced that the construction unit has formulated 40 fine temperature control indexes, innovated and optimized 9 cooling and maintenance processes through a lot of theoretical research and experimental verification, and took the lead in introducing monitoring methods based on big data technology, thus realizing the accurate and controllable temperature of each section of the tower column, overcoming the problem that concrete towers will crack whenever they meet, practicing quality engineering and creating "Anhui Precision".
In addition, the second Wuhu Yangtze River Bridge is the first super-long-span cable-stayed bridge with curved bottom steel box girder. For the first time, the symmetrical cantilever splicing technology of all beam segments was used, and the maximum cantilever length reached 397 meters, setting a new record for cable-stayed bridge construction in China. The main tower is 262 meters high and is the second tallest tower on the Yangtze River at present. The main span is 806 meters, ranking sixth in China and ninth in the world among similar bridges.
CCCC No.2 Aviation Administration undertook the construction of three tender sections, namely, the bridge DL-2, the main bridge A2, the segmental beam prefabrication and erection E1, with a total contract amount of more than 900 million. It took only 30 days for the second airman to install a large box to complete the underwater concrete back cover; It took 21 days to complete a number of tedious processes, such as concrete with double walls, pumping water by hanging boxes, cutting steel liners and chiseling pile heads. It took only 38 days from binding the first pile cap steel bar to pouring the last pile cap concrete, creating a brilliant achievement of high-difficulty, high-risk and high-quality bridge construction.

Wuhu Yangtze River Bridge No.2 is an important part of Anhui Province’s "four verticals and eight horizontals" expressway network, and it is also a river-crossing channel of Xuzhou-Fuzhou expressway in the national expressway network. The project starts at Shijian, Wuwei County, Wuhu City and ends at Eshan, Fanchang County, with a total length of about 55.5 kilometers. Among them, the main bridge across the river is 1622 meters long, with six lanes in both directions and a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
More than a month before the Chinese New Year, Zhang Tao, a foreigner who works in Wuhu, began to re-plan his way home.
